Quad Graphics to Close in Saratoga Springs

Quad Graphics, the magazine production facility located at 56 Duplainville Road in Saratoga Springs, is set to close, according to confirmation from the company to NEWS10.

In a statement, Quad announced that it would cease operations at its Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Bolingbrook, Ill., facilities in the first half of 2024. This decision aligns with the company's ongoing strategy to optimize its platform within the ever-changing media landscape.

The closure is attributed to industry trends, including changes in the volume of certain print categories, such as magazines, and an increase in postal costs. The Saratoga Springs plant is slated to close by May 4, affecting approximately 435 employees.

Joel Quadracci, Quad Chairman, President, and CEO, emphasized the company's commitment to optimizing its platform for the future as a marketing experience (MX) company, providing all the resources for frictionless marketing execution. He highlighted that print remains a crucial and strategic part of their integrated marketing platform, covering both traditional and digital channels.

Originally constructed in 1984 for newsweekly magazine production, the Saratoga Springs facility's work will now be transferred to other Quad facilities in Hartford, Wisconsin, The Rock, Georgia, and Springfield, Massachusetts.

Quad has stated that they are offering incentives to employees willing to relocate to other company facilities. For those choosing not to relocate, the company is providing a separation package inclusive of severance pay, continuation of health care benefits, and career transition assistance.
